The 5.7x28mm is the least popular NATO small arms cartridge in the United States (unless you count the 40mm grenade, which is arguably suboptimal for home defense). This cartridge’s 40 grain projectile ends in a polymer tip. Its sharp profile assures that the bullet feeds correctly into the chamber, and also streamlines it to promote greater accuracy and energy delivery on impact. As with a polymer-tipped hunting bullet, the projectile’s tip also serves to create wider terminal expansion. If you removed the tip, you would see that it concealed a deep hollow point nose cavity.
