If you count all its pellets together, the approximately 1.85 oz. shot column possesses about 2,623 ft lbs of kinetic energy at the instant it exits the barrel. That puts it on equal footing with a standard 308 Win cartridge.

Winchester didn’t just ensure that this shell patterns tightly by making its lead shot pellets hard and consistently 0.33” in diameter. They also packed the shot column with granulated buffering – spall synthetic pellets which are supple enough to absorb recoil energy before it can compact and deform the shot pellets.
